Mandela 1918-2013

CBC NEWS

Celebrating the life of a revolutionary leader and revered statesman.

Project Details

As a political prisoner, revolutionary leader of the anti-apartheid movement, and as President of South Africa Nelson Mandela became one of the 20th century’s most important social and political figures. Upon his death in 2013 CBC wanted to commemorate his extraordinary life with a piece that leveraged their media coverage of the man over the decades.

We worked with CBC producers to create, Mandela 1918-2013, a beautifully designed interactive timeline that invites users to explore the key historical events that shaped Mandela’s struggle and pays tribute to his legacy.

The timeline incorporates a treasure trove of archival photos, audio, and video, including a 1960 radio report from Alex Trebek on the Sharpesville massacre, and a feature interview with Nelson Mandela conducted by legendary Canadian broadcaster, Barbara Frum, shortly after his release from prison.

This is a unique website which will require a more modern browser to work!
