A new name and new partnership

Many of you may be here inadvertently.

After all we haven’t always been called Denman.

From 2010 to 2015 this company operated under the legal name Fullscreen Communications. It was a good name, which spoke to our focus on creating immersive, media-rich interactive experiences for a wide range of platforms and devices. Our more familiar brand name, Fulscrn, was a nod to the abbreviated language of texting (and worked wonders for SEO).

But time marches on, the world changes, and for us it was time to change too.

We had a couple motivators.

First was another company called Fullscreen. You may have heard of them. They are a multi-channel network that started a few years after us. They spelled their name differently so at first we let it ride. I even had a laugh about it with their CEO who I met at the Banff World Media Festival a couple of years ago. As they’ve grown (and, wow, have they grown) the brand confusion became less funny.

Second, and more importantly, I have a new partner. He’s a long time collaborator who, after working with me at CBC Radio 3, the NFB, and for years as an independent designer/developer, finally agreed to tie the knot and make it official. If you’ve done work with me in the past you probably already know Steve Mackey. He is one of the best in the business and I am so happy to have him running this company with me. In formalizing our partnership it only seemed right that we forge some kind of new identity.

Our new name was developed over a two-month period at the end of 2015 and was incorporated just a few days before Christmas. It involved a pretty exhaustive examination of our work, personality, values, and market. In the end we chose Denman. It’s a name with a lot of local resonance for us Canadian west-coast types and part of some fascinating heritage. Someday we’ll tell you the story.

Our new visual identity, website, and other company collateral followed over the last month or so.

We hope you like it all as much as we do.

– Sean

ps. Everything else is the same. Same commitment to our clients. Same great strategy, design, technology. Same friendly and collaborative approach to our work.
